How the Mass Communication Syllabi taught at IIMM is the most dynamic

We at IIMM Delhi have thought differently and designed the curriculum, chosen the faculty and facilities for our media programs. This is an Institute with a difference. One, it is an institute teaching all aspects of Mass Communication right from Radio and TV journalism to Advertising and PR, covering all aspects of production, presentation, training and strategy. Two it provides education facilities for all possible levels – from Undergraduate to Postgraduate diplomas and Masters.

Since the focus is purely on this profession and its requirements, the institute gives a holistic view and a 360 degree perspective to the students and concentrates in dealing with issues related only to this field. Also, we have working professionals forming a very integral part of the core education process, which makes our training tailor-made for the industry. The students are taught skills and methodology suited to the needs of their profession, which make their placements very attractive and also help them perform well at work. Our experience has shown that with this nature of training the progress at work is very fast and our students are welcomed into the workplace. The initial advantage holds them in good stead all through life and they are always a step ahead of
their competition.  

A lot of thought and planning has gone into the design of our programs and curriculum to give our students the cutting edge advantage.  Over the years, we have structured our teaching in phases and have created three levels of teaching and training. 

Level 1 – Theory of all the fields of mass communication
Classroom teaching of theories
3 years course – 2 years
2 year course – 1 year
1 year course – 6 months 
Level 2 – Practical assignments and Projects
Level 3 – Specialization in one aspect of Mass Communication Internship/ Placement

We have different types of specialization available in each and every course of ours. The aim is to prepare the students to find openings for them in the professional world, keeping in mind that each is an individual and has their own strengths and skills to develop and work on. Practical training exercises, hands-on training on equipment and real life projects are some of the ways in which we expose our students to the feel of the profession and make them suitably qualified to enter into the real world situation.

Our students get a chance of getting a dual qualification. One, practical oriented from the Institute and one of degree courses from the University, thus completing all requirements for various openings in the field. 

By exposing them to practicing professionals we give the students an opportunity to be observed and recruited directly from the classroom itself. They are not students but rather trainees under guidance and observation of their prospective employers.

Also we believe that the skills required in the field of Mass Communication are all about the individual and his or her capabilities and motivation. Our endeavor is to hone and refine these skills in every individual thus preparing them for a bright future ahead. 

We develop the confidence and personality of a student so that his creativity emerges. Students are encouraged to discover themselves – their strong points, talent and abilities through studies, practical and extra-curricular activities. After all this exploration each one finds their own place in this world of Mass Communication. 

The success and achievement of this kind of a program can be evaluated by looking at our alumni of the past two decades and more. They are now in the best of positions in the print media, leading TV channels, advertising agencies, production houses, PR firms and news dailies. 

With all this planning and thinking our finished product i.e. our students are independent professionals who move out for internships and placements with a lot of confidence.
